Meet Marjolein

Meet Marjolein, the Homeroom Teacher for Podo Village. With a passion for inclusion and growth, she brings international experience to the classroom, having taught in Belgium, Finland, the Dominican Republic and Kenya. Marjolein holds a Bachelor’s degree in Primary Education and is trained in the International Primary Curriculum. When she’s not teaching, you’ll likely find her exploring nature with her two dogs, Kiki and Szybko, or camping in the beautiful Aberdares.

Meet Sarah Arthur

Sarah leads our Inclusion and Learning Support programme, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

With a Master’s in Special and Inclusive Education from the University of Nottingham and wide international experience, she is passionate about creating a culture of belonging, building neurodiversity-affirming practices, and coaching teachers to meet diverse learner needs. Sarah is known for her empathy, expertise, and commitment to empowering every child to succeed.

Meet Ashaba

Ashaba is a dedicated and passionate Art teacher with a proven track record of fostering creativity and innovation in students. With 9 years of experience in teaching across East Africa, he possess a unique blend of creative and instructional skills that allow him to develop and deliver engaging art lessons.

His educational background includes a master’s degree in Art and Industrial Design and an undergraduate degree in vocational studies in Art and design with Education. He is trained and certified in international curricula, including Cambridge, IB, and the American system, ensuring he is well-equipped to teach diverse learning styles. He is level 2 Google Certified Educator enhancing his ability to integrate technology into his teaching practices.

Outside class, Ashaba loves spending time listening to music, making personal art, taking nature walks, swimming and working out.

Meet Abel

Abel serves as the Sports Director for our entire school. He is a former professional middle-distance runner with extensive experience in athletic coaching.

Prior to joining us, Abel held the position of Sports Director at three different international schools in Nairobi. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Athletic Coaching and is currently pursuing a specialization in Adaptive Physical Education.

Abel firmly believes in the power of sports to bridge cultural differences and empower every student to achieve their personal best, regardless of their abilities.

Meet Mercy Maina

Mercy Maina is our Olea Village Homeroom Teacher and dedicated educator with 7+ years of experience teaching Mathematics across various levels. She graduated from the university of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Chemistry.

She is committed to empowering students through innovative teaching methods, fostering critical thinking, and cultivating a love for learning. Mercy has worked as a Curriculum Coordinator and Head of Mathematics Department and has lead initiatives that enhance academic performance and foster a positive learning environment.

Beyond the classroom, Mercy loves learning new skills and playing chess.

Meet Marc

Marc is a dynamic educator who is our Literacy Coordinator and Mvule homeroom teacher. He delivers Literacy (Acacia and Mutunguru) and Social Studies (Year 7).

Marc has nearly twenty years of experience teaching across myriad places such as South Korea, Malaysia, Malawi, Gabon, China, his native Canada and more. He loves people and that love is central to his ability to connect with students and help them become the best practitioners of language, and the best people they can be!

Meet Quinter

Meet Quinter, a dedicated high school co-teacher specializing in literacy and Swahili. A graduate of Kenyatta University, Quinter holds a Bachelor's degree in Education, with a focus on Special Needs Education and a specialization in English and Literature. She has also earned a counseling certificate from Kenya Medical Training College, a Kenya Sign Language certificate, certificate in Reading Comprehension, Fluency and Vocabulary strategies from Dyslexia Training Institute and a Certificate in Chils Psychology from Alison.

Quinter is a passionate educator who believes in the power of inclusion and the potential of every child to achieve their dreams. She loves working with teenagers and finds joy in learning alongside them, always discovering something new together.

Outside of the classroom, Quinter cherishes time with her family. She enjoys cooking, playing with her children, listening to music, dancing, and watching movies. A lover of nature and travel, she embraces life's adventures with enthusiasm and a spirit of exploration.

Meet Lawrence

Kiplangat Lawrence is high school co-teacher an experienced educator specializing in mathematics and science instruction. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Special Needs Education. Throughout his career, Mr. Lawrence has demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, particularly for students with diverse educational needs.
His expertise lies in differentiating instruction to meet the unique requirements of each student, ensuring that all learners have access to quality education. His pedagogical approach is grounded in the belief that every student possesses the potential to excel academically when provided with the appropriate resources and encouragement.

Meet Georges

Georges is a Secondary Years French Teacher from Cameroon with a BA in French Modern Letters and a Master’s in Didactics of French as a Foreign Language.

He has taught in Cameroon, Gabon, Seychelles, and Djibouti, with experience in the Cambridge Curriculum, International Baccalaureat, and Common Core. He promotes an engaging, inclusive, and real-world learning environment.

Beyond the classroom, Georges enjoys reading and watching movies, passions that often inspire his creative and relatable teaching approach.

Meet Dan Flanagan

Growing up in Canada during the icy, cold winters meant that a lot of time was spent indoors next to the fireplace avoiding the windchill. These long months spent inside waiting for the snow to melt just happened to be conducive for reflective thought so I attended the University of Winnipeg to study Philosophy. After working as a volunteer teacher for the government of Manitoba's ESL classes I realized I wanted to learn more about teaching as well as living abroad and thus began teaching secondary English in the South Korean public school system. As a result, I became interested in the idea of self-guided, lifelong learning and lt Thailand with its multitude of international schools would be the next best place to do this. As a high school Language Arts teacher in this south east Asian country, I discovered a deeper interest in curriculum design and the learning process which then led me to the University of Bath and an M.A. in Education. After the work day is over, you can find me at the cafe with a hot cup of peppermint tea or outside in nature riding my bike through the countryside hills of Tigoni.

Meet Ibrahim

Ibrahim is our math and science educator for the SY. He holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Medical Physics from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, and a Bachelor of Education degree from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Canada.

With 10 years of international teaching experience, Ibrahim has taught various curricula in countries including China, Japan, Hungary and Bosnia. He has extensive expertise in Project-Based Learning and enjoys linking classroom instruction with real-life applications.

In his free time, Ibrahim enjoys baking, exploring new towns and cities, hiking, and scuba diving.

Meet Gerrie

Gerrie is our Literacy, Foundational Skills, and Social Studies teacher for Secondary Years. He holds a Master's degree in Philosophy from Ghent University, a Master's degree in Religious Studies from the University of Louvain, a Postgraduate Certification in Education from the University of Essex and a Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English.

He has worked in education for over twenty years, teaching in different countries. He is passionate about exploring new places, discovering new music, and sipping coffee whilst reading a book.

Meet Dan Gendo

Dan Gendo is a co-teacher for Nandi village. He is a certified special needs education teacher who is highly dedicated, passionate Special Needs Education Teacher with 3 years of experience in creating inclusive and supportive educational environments for students with diverse learning needs with exposure to Kenyan, British and American curriculum's. He has taught and supported learners with learning needs in mathematics, Literacy and sciences. Furhtermore, he has demonstrated a profound understanding of various disabilities and developmental disorders, employing individualised teaching strategies to enhance students' academic, social, and emotional growth. He is committed to fostering a positive and adaptive learning atmosphere that encourages students to reach their fullest potential.

Meet Jessen

Jessen Carley is our Kigelia Homeroom Teacher. She joined Teach for America in New Orleans in 2011, focusing on 6th through 8th grade Special Education, math integration and behavior support.

In 2013 she joined Epiphany School in Seattle, Washington, USA first as a Learning Support Teacher and then as a Second Grade Homeroom Teacher.She is certified in K-8 Special Education as well as K-8 Mathematics. She has a master's degree in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins.

Jess is married and has two children - George and Maxine. They love to spend time exploring new places and cultures.

Meet Omar

Omar is the Muhuti Homeroom teacher. He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelors degree in Education. He is currently doing his masters degree in education management. He has a post graduate certificate in international curricula from Riara University as well as a certificate in Early learning and Instruction from the University of Nairobi.

Omar's commitment to educational excellence is highlighted by his experience with different curricula ranging from International Baccalaureate (IB) to the local C.B.C and 8.4.4.

Beyond his professional qualifications, Omar is known for his approachable and empathetic demeanour. He has ability to connect with students on a personal level, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Omar enjoys football, martial arts (karate, for fun), wild walks and just exploring nature.

Meet Wambui

Wambui is the Whole School Counselor at WSS. She has an MA in School Counseling from The University of Alabama and has 5+ years experience working in school settings both international and local.

She is also a certified Brick Club facilitator, which she uses extensively in her practice. Working with students keeps her up to date with the younger generation lingo, so if you need to find the meaning of a gen-z or alpha term, she is your go to! In her free time, Wambui enjoys hiking, spending time in nature, with family and friends and exploring new places.

Meet Rory

Rory is our Head of School and brings over 25 years of leadership and teaching experience across two continents and five countries. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Business and Information Technology and completed the Graduate Teaching Programme (GTP), combining a strong academic foundation with a deep commitment to educational leadership.

He has held leadership roles in schools in the UK, Uganda, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, and Kenya. His experience includes serving as IT Director and member of the Education Leadership Team at the International School of Uganda, Southbank International & Northbridge House Schools in London, and teaching and coaching across the IB Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programmes.

Throughout his career, Rory has led teams, developed strategic plans, and overseen major projects that strengthened teaching, learning, and school operations. He has managed introduced innovative practices, and championed professional development for staff, always with the goal of ensuring excellence in learning.

His international experience and leadership have shaped a strong belief in the value of global education, inclusivity, and adaptability, as well as in nurturing students to become confident, creative, and compassionate learners.

Middle Years Homeroom Teacher

Description: The Middle Years (PY) Homeroom Teacher will teach Literacy and Social Science to their class, and some combination of either Literacy or Science to another middle years class. The homeroom teacher is also responsible for providing social-emotional support and is the primary contact with parents of the class. Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in education or post-graduate certification in education.
Valid teaching license in Middle Years education
Minimum two years teaching experience in international curriculum.
Available to Kenyan (TSC registration required) and non-Kenyan applicants.
Starting August 2024.

Meet Debbie

Debbi serves as a school counselor for both the High School and Middle School. With a Masters degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Mount Mary University, she is both a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Art Therapist through the American Art Therapy Association.

Debbi has worked with diverse age groups in varied settings, from schools to hospitals and family practice. She is passionate about merging creative interventions with therapeutic techniques, and enjoys working with culturally diverse communities.

In her free time, Debbi can be found diving into her art materials, out on a run, or adventuring in nature.

Meet Gene

Gene is the art teacher. She has a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and an Honours degree in Education Law and Management from North-West University in South Africa.

She is passionate about creating a safe learning environment where learners can be encouraged to develop emotionally, academically and socially.

Gene loves reading, going on long tea walks and painting.

Meet Carmen

Carmen is the Mutunguru Village homeroom teacher. She has lived in East Africa for 15 years. She has worked in an IB school in Arusha and a British Curriculum school in Nairobi.

Carmen first studied Occupational Therapy at the University of Cape Town and is also a certified Clifton Strength coach. She is passionate about being on a journey of growth and development of others through teaching and coaching.

She lives in Karen, Nairobi with her husband and two children. Carmen loves reading (especially historical fiction), beach time and very slow, short runs.

Meet Andanje Ian

Andanje Ian is a Middle Year Co-Teacher and Learning Support Teacher in Mutunguru village. He has a degree in Special Needs Education from St. Paul's University and certificates in Understanding Inclusive Teaching and Approaches and Applied Behavior Analysis from Alison. He also has skills in the Kenyan Sign Language.

Ian delights in unlocking, nurturing, and stimulating learners to achieve their full potential. He recognizes that every learner brings a special contribution to the table when provided with a conducive atmosphere, and that they can thrive when their efforts are acknowledged and applauded.

During his free time, he enjoys cycling, singing, listening to songs, having nature walks around water sources, and watching documentaries.

Meet Katherine

Katherine is the homeroom teacher for Mutunguru Village and teaches mathematics to Mutunguru and Siala Villages. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Dowling College and a master’s degree in public and nonprofit management and policy from New York University.

Katherine’s love of math and children led her to pursue a career change after nearly two decades working with nonprofit organizations and government agencies. She completed her teaching licensure program through EducateVA in the Commonwealth of Virginia (during the Covid pandemic) and has endorsements in Middle School Mathematics and Algebra 1. She taught math at the largest middle school in Fairfax County before moving to Nairobi with her family.

Her interests include walking, swimming, yoga, baking and cooking with her two preteen/teenage daughters, finding unique venues for date nights with her US diplomat husband, and throwing parties.

Meet Juliette

Juliette is the Siala Village Co-Teacher. She graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelors degree in Special Needs Education. Juliette loves working with children and supporting them with their learning and social growth.

She has worked in various international schools locally, starting out as a teaching assistant, later on as a reading interventionist and finally as a study skills and behavior support practitioner for senior years.

During her free time, she enjoys listening to podcasts, singing in their choir, writing short plays for children in her church and volunteering at Makimei Children's home.

Meet Cosmas

Cosmas has a Bachelor degree in Special Needs Education with IT from Maseno University. Cosmas has a specilized skill set in braille and enjoys teaching people with visual impairments.

He has acquired significant expertise working with international curricula, and has certifications in SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) and gender resposive teaching and learning.

Cosmas is dedicated to creating a secure, encouraging and fair learning enviroment for all children. Outside of the classroom, Cosmas enjoys football and badminton.

Meet Maureen

Maureen is a 1:1 learning support teacher who believes that the greatest gift we can give our children are roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.

She is certified with a Montessori Diploma and has a certificate in redefining inclusion. She has worked as a class teacher in the Montessori curriculum and as a learning support teacher in both the British and the IB curricula.

During her free time, Maureen enjoys a good laugh with friends and family, watching movies, and finding new recipes to cook.

Meet Gladys

Gladys is the Nandi Flame Co-teacher. She graduated from Kenyatta University with Bachelors degree in Special Needs Education.

Gladys has worked with learners with diverse needs and is passionate about inclusion and mental health and believes that every child can learn and flourish if they feel valued, seen, supported and given the tools needed to be successful in and out of the classroom.

In her free time, Gladys enjoys reading, hiking, exploring new places and playing football.

Meet Solomon Ian

Ian is the co-teacher in the Podo Village. He has a Degree in Education, Special Needs Education and English Literature from Kenyatta University. He has a certification in Sign Language and Safeguarding Measures from Kenya Institute of Special Education. He is passionate about teaching and creating a fun and engaging environment for learners and colleagues. Ian passionately enjoys movies, books, and trying out new dishes and visiting new places.

Meet Faeza

Faeza Tayebjee is the Primary Years Administrator. She has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Oswego and a dual Master’s degree in Special Education and Reading from Hofstra University. Additionally, she holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration.

Faeza has taught for over twenty years, mainly in the United States. She is passionate about curriculum and literacy.

In the evenings, Faeza enjoys walking in Karura, swimming, and reading a good book.

Meet Mary

Mary is our Early Years Learning Support Coordinator and Euphobia Co-Teacher. She is passionate about inclusion and individualised learning for learners. She is a trained teacher with Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education (University Of Nairobi) and is working to complete a Diploma in Special Education Needs and Disabilities (Centre of Excellence UK).

Mary has various other certifications, including one in Early Grade Curriculum Instruction Reading from USAID. She has experience teaching children between the ages of 2-8 in two great schools in Kenya.

When she is not working, she enjoys watching Friends, going for a run, cycling at Karura Forest and drinking a coffee.

Meet Joy

Joy is the School's Administrative Assistant and Government Compliance Administrator. She is an accomplished and seasoned communications practitioner. She is imaginative, innovative, creative and a team player. Academically, Joy holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication - Major in Marketing Communication from UCSI University.

Joy is passionate about living intentionally. Excellence and hard work is her motto; Impact is her calling.

Joy loves to organize and thrives where there is order. You can find her organizing in her free time, cooking, or journaling her thoughts.

Meet Chris

Chris is the new High School Administrator and will teach Humanities for the Sulwe Village. He earned Bachelor degrees in Political Science and English from the University of South Florida before serving as an Education Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Rwanda.

Since then, Chris has worked in a number of post-conflict regions of the Global South, focusing on service learning and DEIJ initiatives.

Even though he teaches literature, he loves reading and journaling outside of class, and spends his breaks going on long hikes in places without cell phone reception.

Meet Heather

Heather is our Assitant Principal. She has been working in education for 20 years and holds a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership, a Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction, a Certificate of International School Leadership from the Principal's Training Centre, and a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communications.

Heather has mostly spent her years teaching Language and Literature classes but has also taught Film and Graphic Design. She has spent the last 20 years teaching in Canada, USA, Kenya, Jordan, Malaysia, and South Korea.

All of these experiences, plus her childhood in Kenya have made Heather passionate about international education and helping kids explore the world around them.

Meet David

David is the Whole-School Learning Support Coordinator, Inclusion and Vocational Specialist. David is a Special Education graduate with extensive teaching experience. He has worked as classroom teacher in both Middle Years and High School and as a learning support teacher and a head of department in various international schools.

David is a very passionate teacher who enjoys helping students find their potential and inspiring them to give new things a try. He enjoys working in a multicultural, inclusive environment and believes that every child has unique abilities and talents. David can also teach and interpret sign language.

In his free time, David enjoys working on the farm.

Meet Taylor

Taylor holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades and High School Mathematics and Social Studies from the University of North Carolina.

She is passionate about mathematics, girls education, Deaf empowerment, carpentry, Kenyan history, graphic design, and her dog, Muthaka.

Meet Amy

Woodland Star was founded by Amy. She graduated with a Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Mobile and a Master’s in Gifted Education from William Carey University.

She has taught in both the American system and the British system in the areas of early childhood and elementary education, visual arts, middle and high school literacy and history, gifted education, and performing arts. This year she will be teaching Psychology and Art in the high school.

Amy loves to create, travel, be with family, laugh, and experience theatre and dance.

Meet Amanda

Amanda is our High School Science and Foreign Languages teacher. She has Bachelors of Education and Arts degrees from Canada and a Masters of Science in International Education from the USA. She has been teaching many subjects and grade levels across the world for 17 years. She has worked in Canadian, American and British systems.

Amanda is passionate about lifelong learning and is always exploring new interests and living new experiences. She is excited to share her love of learning with students and help them discover their own talents and passions. She is committed to helping students reach their true potential through authentic learning and positive encouragement.

You will ususally find her with a cup of tea, some good music, and a book.

Meet Maggie

Maggie is the co-teacher in Muhuti Village. She graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Needs Education. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Special Needs Education - Autism Spectrum Disorders, at Kenyatta University.

Maggie has worked as a learning support teacher in both middle school and high school classrooms in international schools in Kenya. She believes that each learner is an individual and should be given the opportunity to learn at their own pace.

Maggie enjoys spending time with family, traveling to new places, cooking and listening to music.

Meet Mercy

Mercy is one of our 1:1 Learning Support Teachers. She graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has a Diploma in Human Psychology and a Diploma in Child Psychology from Alison, as well as a Certificate on Understanding Autism, ADHD and Aspergers Syndrome from University of Derby.

She has taught a competency-based curriculum and various international curriculums in schools in Kenya. Mercy is passionate about child psychology and nurturing learners in their unique abilities and interests.

She enjoys traveling, listening to music and spending time with her family.

Meet Barron

Barron is the Mathematics Intervention Teacher. He studied Special Needs Education (Diploma Level) at Kenyatta University in Nairobi. He has been a home school teacher, a teacher in an inclusive setting, and also a caregiver to both typical and atypical learners. He is passionate about working with students on social skills and he loves learning from others.

He enjoys doing mathematics, reading and doing research, playing football and basketball, going for nature walks, listening to music, traveling, and giving a helping hand.

Meet Amy

Meet Micki

Micki serves in Admin Support and as the Government Compliance Administrator for the school.

She has an International Montessori Diploma from MCI in London, a Bachelor’s of Education in Early Childhood Development, and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Education. Micki has been involved with the school in various capacities since its inception.

Meet Kelvin

Kelvin is our Learning Support Coordinator and is part of the school’s leadership team. He has a Degree in Special Education and a Postgraduate Certificate in Functional Assessment and Evaluation. He is passionate about inclusion and loves working with learners with different abilities. Kelvin is almost done with his journey towards becoming an Orton Gillingham Practitioner.

Away from school, golfing, cycling, long drives through beautiful scenery and watching spectacular sunsets are his go-to activities. During cold days up here in Tigoni, he holds on to his cup of coffee dearly.

Meet Jeffery

Jeff is our Assistant Principal and teaches Middle Grades Science and Green Focus. He holds an Educational Specialist Degree in School Leadership from Furman University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Clemson University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth & Environmental Sciences and Political Science from Furman University.

Jeff has experience teaching Science, Social Sciences, and Literacy across the K-12 range, and his specialty lies with middle schoolers. He has taught in Burundi, Kenya, South Africa, and the USA. He is driven to help students find their passions and tap into their full potential.

On weekends and school holidays, Jeff enjoys photography, hiking, traveling to as many places as possible in Kenya, and sharing meals with his wife, baby girl and friends.

Meet Timo

Timo is our School Principal. He graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc in Environmental & Geographical Science, and completed his Post-Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Stellenbosch.

He has a MasterTrack Certificate in Instructional Design from the University of Illinois and a Certificate of School Management and Leadership from Harvard Business School & Harvard Graduate School of Education.

His interests include camping, playing sports, gardening, and upcycling junk into art. Timo loves trail-running, being on safari and doing the odd prank or two!

Meet Tesni

Tesni is our Early Years and Primary Years School Counsellor. She has a Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Cape Town and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play skills from Play Therapy International.

She is passionate about holistically supporting children who have experienced trauma, challenging circumstances, or have special needs. She has been part of the management team at a children's home for over a decade, where she worked therapeutically with many of the children.

She was born and raised in South Africa and has lived in Kenya since 2007 with her husband and four children. She absolutely loves trail running and is in her happy place when adventuring outdoors, whether at the beach or in the bush, or in the Tigoni teafields.

Meet Macrine

Macrine is a co-teacher in the Kigelia Village. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Kenyatta University and a Certificate in the same field. Before starting to work with with special needs learners, Macrine has taught from early years to Grade 4 for over a decade. She is passionate about teaching, learning and reading with young children. When not teaching, Macrine runs a small home library for neighbourhood children. She also loves cooking for her family and taking nature walks.

Meet Ian

Ian is a Departmental Learning Support Teacher and one of the Green Focus teachers. Ian has a wealth of teaching experience, having taught across East Africa since 2013 in the field of Special Needs. Ian has taught from Early Years through 6th grade.

Ian graduated from Maseno University with a BA in Special Needs Education. He also holds a Certificate in Early Childhood and Special Education, and is currently pursuing his Masters in Special Education at Kenyatta University (KU).

Meet Megan

Megan is a part-time Maths and Art teacher. Megan has a Bachelors in Education, and has always been passionate about using the outdoors to create engaging lessons and memorable learning experiences.

Megan loves it most when her students go home messy, happy and curious!

In her spare time Megan loves reading, getting lost in the Tigoni tea fields with her friends and being on holiday with her husband and four beautiful children.

Meet Ruth

Ruth is our Performing Arts Teacher. Ruth earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Nottingham.

Ruth is certified as an Orff Schulwerk Music Teacher from Southern Methodist University. Music and drama have led Ruth across East Africa, having taught in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya!

When she is not teaching, Ruth loves to explore Kenya, discover new reading material, enjoy live theatre and hit the running trails.

Meet Maureen

Maureen is our teacher-librarian. Her love for children and reading from a very early age motivated her to train as a Teacher-Librarian, having attained a Montessori Diploma from MCI (London), a Diploma in Library and Information Science (UoN) and a Bachelor’s of Education in Early Childhood Development (Africa Nazarene University). Maureen's passion for her career led her to work at several international schools for over a decade.

During her leisure time, Maureen enjoys traveling and sightseeing with her family, mentoring teenage girls, visiting children’s homes, as well as reading, dancing, watching documentaries and gardening.

Meet Beatrice

Beatrice is our P.E. Coordinator. She studied Physical Education and Sport at the University of Nairobi and has a certificate in engaging with gifted and talented learners and learners with dyslexia from British Council Partner Schools.

She is an enthusiastic and caring educator who believes that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.

In her free time she loves learning new things, hiking, listening to music and dancing.

Meet Angela

Angela (Angie) is a 1:1 learning support teacher. She is skilled in speech and language development, and social, emotional, and sensory function development. Angela specializes in articulation and literacy acquisition.

She is Montessori certified, and has training in Pediatric Neurodevelopment, Diagnostic Techniques and treatment for children with developmental disabilities. Angela has a Certificate of Training for Special Educational Needs in speech, language and communication needs (OLI-UK.)

Angela is passionate about early intervention and all-inclusive education. Angela loves traveling and swimming.

Meet David

David is the Whole-School Learning Support Coordinator, Inclusion and Vocational Specialist. David is a Special Education graduate with extensive teaching experience. He has worked as classroom teacher in both Middle Years and High School and as a learning support teacher and a head of department in various international schools.

David is a very passionate teacher who enjoys helping students find their potential and inspiring them to give new things a try. He enjoys working in a multicultural, inclusive environment and believes that every child has unique abilities and talents. David can also teach and interpret sign language.

In his free time, David enjoys working on the farm.

Meet Emily

Emily is an avid reader and writer who loves sharing her passion for Literacy. She is the Literacy Coordinator and Siala and Mutunguru Literacy teacher. Emily studied Middle Grades Education at the University of Georgia.

As a lifelong learner, she has thoroughly enjoyed pursuing her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois the past 3 years where she has focused her research on reading intervention and neurodiversity.

If you spot her in the wild, you might find her cycling between lorries, identifying bird calls, or clumsily trying to speak Swahili (help her practice).

Meet John

John is a 1:1 Learning Support teacher and Registered Behavior Technician. He studied Special Needs Education at Kenyatta University and counseling psychology and cognitive psychology at Amani counseling center and training Institute.

John has a diploma in Applied Behavior Analysis from the Centre of Excellence. He also studied Autism and ADHD at the University of Durby, and Teaching Methods and Curriculum Development on Coursera with British Council Partner Schools.

John has experience with different Curricula including International Baccalaureate and Cambridge Curriculum. He specializes in Special Needs Education and Applied Behavior Analysis. He is convinced that every learner has a unique talent and ability regardless of their learning diversities.

John loves samosas, chapati and dawa.

Meet Isaac

Isaac is one of our 1:1 Learning Support Teachers. Isaac graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelors Degree in Education (Special Needs Education). Isaac has several years experience in various institutions supporting learners with varying special needs and disabilities.

He is well knowledgeable in ABA principles, interventions and implementing treatment plans. He is adept at motivating, instructing and supporting learners with special needs.

In his spare time, he loves new adventures, playing and watching football, playing monopoly, cards and watching movies.

Meet Sylvia

Sylvia is the Co-teacher in the Siala Village. She has worked in various international schools in Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Kenya for close to a decade.

Sylvia loves the challenge of being in the classroom and the satisfaction of watching children make progress. She has a passion for Inquiry Based Learning. Sylvia instills the love for learning through encouraging learners to take risks, make mistakes, and develop a sense of determination and independence.

Other than teaching, Sylvia enjoys coaching netball. She is passionate about languages and learning about different cultures.

Meet Taylor

Taylor holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades and High School Mathematics and Social Studies from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.

She is passionate about mathematics, girls education, Deaf empowerment, carpentry, Kenyan history, graphic design, and her dog, Muthaka.

Meet Beldine

Beldine is the Literacy Intervention Teacher. With a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from the University of Nairobi and a Certificate in Redefining Inclusion and Social Emotional Learning, she is deeply committed to creating an inclusive environment where all learners thrive.

Beldine's passion for working with students of diverse abilities shines through as she skillfully employs engaging games to enhance reading skills.

As a certified Orton Gillingham practitioner, she brings specialized expertise to support individual learning needs. During her free time, Beldine loves learning new skills, participating in organized outdoor activities, listening to music, and playing board games.

Meet Jenny

Jenny is the Homeroom Teacher for the **Nandi Flame** Village. She studied Anthropology at Durham University before taking her Post Graduate Degree in Primary Education at Bath Spa.

She is passionate about providing children with a positive environment in which they can find their voice and thrive.

Jenny loves drinking tea, exploring new places and dancing like no one’s watching.

Meet Azinet

Azinet is one of our 1:1 Learning Support Teachers. She studied Special Needs Education at Kenyatta University and has a Certificate in Redefining Inclusion and Supporting Children with Learnining Difficulties through Coursera.

She has worked in international schools as an inclusion assistant, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Therapist, and a classroom teacher. She is passionate about inclusive education for all, and using technology to support learning.

She loves gardening and going for nature walks.

Meet Tony

Tony passionately navigates the intersections of psychology, diversity, and inclusion, fostering growth mindsets in learners while exploring music's profound impacts.

He has a Psychology degree from Kenyatta University and RBT training from the University of Nevada-USIU. His dedication is evident across a 9-year span, where he has implemented specialized ABA programs with BCBA supervision while honing speech and language skills with Speech and Language Pathologist guidance.

He is currently pursuing a Master's in Speech, Langauge, Pathology and in his free time enjoys fiction and non-fiction literature, cinema, playing various board games, and taking long walks. He dabbles in leisure writing.

Meet Esther

Esther is the Co-teacher in the Muhuhti Village and Kigelia Maths. She was born and raised in Western Kenya, and graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Special Needs Education). She also has a Certificate in Kenya Sign Language from the Kenya Institute of Special Education.

Esther started off as a learning support teacher in a special school for four years before joining an international school as a teaching assistant and later becoming the lead teacher.

During her free time Esther enjoys riding her bike, trying out new recipes, listening to music and exploring new and exciting places.

Meet Polly

Pauline (Polly) is the Homeroom Teacher for the Muhuti Village and she teaches Kigelia Literacy. She holds a Master’s Degree in Reading Education from Boston University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Studio Art from Keene State College. Recently, Polly went back to the United States to complete the Long Trail in Vermont!

She loves to design lessons based on student interest and form collaborative classroom environments where students learn from one another.

Polly loves hiking, camping, sunrise, baking, listening to music and spending time with friends!

Meet Beryl

Beryl is the Muna Village co-teacher. She did a Bachelors of Special Education at the Kenyatta University in Nairobi. This is her 3rd year at the school and she loves the environment and the children at the school.

Beryl loves cooking and lives in Tigoni with her daughter. Beryl is currently studying Literacy support and intervention through a program at Chester University.

Meet Pooja

Pooja is our Homeroom Teacher for the Kigelia Village. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Management, a Diploma in Psychology and a Postgraduate Degree in Education.

She started off with a career in advertising and market research, then transitioned into teaching and has never looked back! She has taught in various international schools in East Africa and is passionaite about empowering children to reach their full potential through creativity and problem-solving.

She lives in Lavington with her husband, baby Elayna and two dogs (Pato and Marley). In her spare time she enjoys meditating, travelling with her family, dancing and music.

Meet Martha

Martha joins WSS as a 1:1 Learning Support Teacher in the Primary Years. Martha has a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Needs Education from Kenyatta University, and has been working in the field of Special Needs Education since 2016.

Martha believes that proper placement, adequate support, guidance and a conducive environment according to a child’s individual needs will assist them to thrive in every sphere of life.

She loves traveling, listening to music, spending time with family and friends and participating in community service projects.

Meet Evah

Evah is the co-teacher in the Moringa Village. She has a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education from Daystar University as well as a Certificate in Teaching International Curriculum (CTIC) from Riara University.

She is passionate about her career and has been working with children since 2010. Evah enjoys creative arts activities, learning new skills, trying out new recipes and listening to music.

Meet Sarah

Sarah is the Homeroom Teacher for our Moringa Village and Literacy Teacher for Moringa and Mugumo Villages. She studied in Australia, receiving her Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood, and a Graduate Diploma of International and Community Development. Before settling and teaching in Kenya, she taught for several years in Australia.

Sarah enjoys spending time exploring beautiful places with her husband and two sons, and experimenting with her new hobby, 'ecoprinting'.

Meet Lucy

Lucy Wangari is a quiet, friendly lady who was born and bred in Nairobi city. She is one of our 1:1 Learning Support Teachers.

She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Special Needs Education, and has vast experience working with children with varying learning needs. Lucy loves working with children!

Lucy enjoys reading, writing and sharing hearty laughs with friends and family.

Meet Cecilia

Cecilia is the co-teacher for the Mugumo Village. She holds a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood from Maseno University. She is currently pursuing her Post Graduate Certificate in International Education (PGCEi) from the University of Nottingham UK.

Cecilia is passionate about inclusion and has positive energy, patience, and enthusiasm to teach learners of all abilities. She loves listening to music and spending time with her family.

Meet Priyanka

Priyanka is the Homeroom Teacher for the Mugumo Village. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from the University of British Columbia and a Post-Graduate Degree in Education from the University of Toronto.

She is passionate about creating a nurturing and fun classroom environment for all her learners through love, community building, and individualized learning.

In her spare time, she enjoys practicing yoga, travelling, and hiking. She loves to go on adventures and explore Kenya with her husband and two dogs - Oreo and Morocco!

Meet Anita

Anita is our Baobab Co-teacher. She has a certificate in Early Childhood Education and is currently pursuing her Diploma in the same. She has been a teacher for the past two years.

Anita is passionate about helping children achieve their full potential. She enjoys learning new things.

Meet Anastacia

Anastacia is our Baobab Homeroom Teacher (2-4 years olds). She graduated from Africa Nazarene University with a Bachelors of Education in Early Childhood Education, and also holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education as well as a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language.

She has taught in both Kenyan and international school settings and loves creating child-centered learning environments for young children.

Anastacia is passionate about dancing, listening to music and spending time with her friends.

Meet Veronica

Veronica is one of our 1:1 Learning Support Teachers. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Special Needs Education from Moi University. She is an experienced learning support teacher with a history of working across both British and American curricula.

She believes that being a teacher is a very special gift and she always looks forward to utilizing her gift to the maximum.

In her spare time, Veronica likes traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Meet Mercy

Mercy is the Co-teacher in our Euphorbia Village. She has a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, and a Certificate in Early Years Learning, Special Needs Education and Child Psychology from Alisons. She has been an Early Years teacher for close to a decade. Mercy is currently pursuing a Diploma in Social Sciences and Counseling at IRLT Netherlands.

Mercy is passionate about nurturing young children. She enjoys spending time with family, singing and trying out new recipes.

Meet Dorinah

Dorinah is our Euphorbia Village Homeroom Teacher and Head of Early Years. She also serves on the school’s leadership team. Her genuine love for children starts at home as a wife and a mother of 3 children.

Dorinah has spent more than 20 years in the classroom, has a Degree in Education (E.C.E) and is about to complete her Masters in Early Childhood Education.

In her free time Dorinah likes spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, travelling and reading.
