Woodland Star’s vision is to develop lifelong learners who will live meaningful lives in a complex and changing world.
Transformational Learning Goals:
At Woodland Star, in addition to a focus on academic growth, we highlight other areas which are essential to a balanced and well-rounded education. We call these areas of focus, which are foundational to our educational philosophy, our “Transformational Learning Goals.” We developed these transformational learning goals, which we believe are critical to helping our learners become agents of change, as a way to ensure we are assessing and evaluating the whole child and not only academic progress. Woodland Star’s Transformational Learning Goals inspire students to think critically and creatively, to challenge assumptions, and to seek solutions to complex problems. Our teachers facilitate transformational learning experiences by asking students to question, reflect, and take action.
At Woodland Star International School, we believe that transformational learning is rooted in three key pillars: individualized instruction, social-emotional learning, and thematic instruction. These pillars work together to provide students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success both academically and in life.
Individualized instruction is at the heart of our educational philosophy. By tailoring instruction to the needs and interests of each student, we create a learning environment that is engaging, challenging, and meaningful. Our teachers use a variety of teaching methods, including project-based learning, to provide students with the support they need to reach their full potential. This approach empowers students to BE SELF-DIRECTED, exhibiting self-awareness and self management, and also helps students to develop a growth mindset and the skills they need to take charge of their own learning.
Social-emotional learning is also a key component of our transformational learning approach. We believe that students learn best when they feel supported and BELONG IN COMMUNITY. To that end, we focus on developing students’ social and emotional skills, helping them to feel confident and secure. Our teachers work to build a positive, inclusive environment where students grow in their social awareness. By fostering a sense of community, we help students to develop strong communication and collaboration skills, preparing them for success in life.
Thematic instruction is the third pillar of our transformational learning approach. This approach involves linking subjects and term-themes in an interdisciplinary way, helping students to make connections between subjects and with the world around them. Our curriculum is designed to be relevant and engaging, encouraging students to explore their passions and make meaningful connections between subjects. By integrating environmental conservation and systems thinking into our thematic instruction, we work to ensure that our students BECOME GLOBALLY MINDFUL.
