At Woodland Star International School, we are passionate about our natural environment, and in many ways see education as a garden: a living, breathing space where every learner deserves the right conditions to grow, thrive, and belong. When learning is rooted in connection, cultivated with care, and nurtured by curiosity, remarkable things happen. It’s in the small, respectful interactions, the bold new ideas, and the shared commitment to each other and the planet that real learning takes root.

That’s the heart of ImaginEd. It’s our platform for sharing how inclusion isn’t an add-on or a special programme, but the foundation on which all learning should be built. We believe that learning should be for everyone – neurotypical and neurodiverse, confident and questioning, loud and quiet, seen and unseen. And we have seen that it can be just that, when we teach with creativity, listen with empathy, and design with every learner in mind.

Rooted in our forest campus in Kenya, ImaginEd brings together stories, practices, and reflections from a diverse, collaborative learning community. Our classrooms are not perfect, and they may at times look a little messy or disorganized from the outside, but they are alive with experimentation, authenticity, and hope. We try things. We reflect. Sometimes we succeed, other times we fail. We always learn and always grow. And we commit to making space where all voices matter, and every learner can see themselves in the story of our school and community.

We hope ImaginEd feels like a breath of fresh air and a nudge of inspiration in the world of education. Whether you’re an educator, a school leader or a parent-advocate, this is a space for connection and possibility. A space where we hope our learning will grow beyond limits.

True inclusion asks us to be gardeners, not gatekeepers, to create environments where every kind of learner is seen, nurtured, and given what they need to grow. It’s not about uniform outcomes, but about honoring diverse journeys.

What a privilege it is to welcome you to our first edition of ImaginEd!

In this first edition, we explore inclusive innovation, not just as a concept, but as a lived experience. You’ll find insights from our students, teachers, families and inclusion experts, as well as creative practices that support learners with a range of needs, strengths, and identities. Whether it’s through differentiated design, environmental learning, co-created spaces, or restorative approaches to discipline, we are always asking: Who might this exclude? And how can we bring them in?
