At Woodland Star International School, the safety, wellbeing and dignity of every child are at the heart of everything we do. We believe every child has the right to learn in an environment where they feel safe, respected, valued and heard.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Every member of our school community, including staff, volunteers, parents, caregivers and students, plays an important role in protecting children from harm, abuse, neglect, exploitation and bullying. Our approach is centred on creating a culture where children feel supported, know their voices matter and are confident to seek help from trusted adults whenever they need it.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding

We are committed to maintaining a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment through:

  • A dedicated Designated Safeguarding Lead supported by a trained safeguarding team.
  • Safe recruitment practices, including background checks, reference checks and police clearance for all staff and volunteers.
  • Regular safeguarding and child protection training to ensure all staff recognise, respond to and report concerns appropriately.
  • Clear procedures for reporting, recording and responding to safeguarding concerns promptly, professionally and confidentially.
  • Secure management of safeguarding records and information.
  • Age-appropriate education that helps students understand personal safety, healthy relationships, respect, boundaries, bullying prevention and online safety.
  • A school culture where every student knows they can speak to a trusted adult if they are worried or need support.
  • Strong partnerships with parents, caregivers and, where appropriate, external child protection agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children.
  • A safe physical and digital environment that supports every child’s wellbeing and development.

We take all safeguarding concerns seriously and respond promptly in accordance with our Child Safeguarding Policy, Kenyan law and recognised international safeguarding best practice.
