Friends of our planet Earth!

Developing an awareness of our environment is crucial for protecting
our planet. At our school, we understand our responsibility to care for our immediate surroundings, the nation of Kenya, and the Earth at large.
We recognize the immense privilege we have to contribute to a more sustainable world, and we believe that respecting nature is integral to understanding our place in the world.

As a reflection of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we start most of our school days with a peaceful and meditative 20-minute walk through our stunning indigenous forest. This practice not only
connects us with nature but also encourages us to reflect on the impact of our actions and strive to make positive changes for the environment.

At Woodland Star, we believe that environmental conservation is essential, and we aim to incorporate it into all aspects of our academic program. By promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability, we hope to instill a deep appreciation and respect for the natural world in our students. As part of our commitment to environmental education, we have dedicated time each week for students to participate in a Green Focus class. In this class, students learn about a wide range of topics related to farming, forestry, ecology, and sustainability. They gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things and the impact that human activities can have on the environment.

Our Green Focus class also provides students with hands-on learning opportunities, such as planting trees, tending to the school’s organic vegetable garden, and partnering with our on-campus environmental organizations, including Centre for Ecosystem Restoration – Kenya, in their conservation work. These experiences not only reinforce the lessons learned in the classroom but also instill a sense of responsibility and ownership over the environment.

As a result of these efforts, our students have become known throughout the greater Nairobi area as some of the biggest nature lovers, tree climbers, and conservation champions around. Our students are enthusiastic and knowledgeable advocates for environmental conservation, and their passion for sustainability inspires others to join in to protect the planet.

By incorporating environmental conservation into all of our classes and providing hands-on learning opportunities through the Green Focus class, we hope to create a new generation of leaders who are committed to preserving the natural world. Our goal is to inspire our students to become active participants in the global sustainability movement and to make a positive impact on the planet for generations to come.
